Steve Clarke's son issues apology over 'poor taste' Rangers Scottish Cup jibe

Steve Clarke's son has issued an apology after a "poor taste" jibe at Rangers.

John Clarke mocked Rangers over their loss to Queen's Park in the Scottish Cup.

The Scottish Championship side claimed a 1-0 win in the fifth round of the competition to pile pressure on Rangers manager Philippe Clement.

In the aftermath, Clarke took to social media to post a troll comment using an image of his dad, the Scotland boss, with the caption: "Bye bye Rangers."

The 'bye bye Rangers' meme originates from his dad when delivering his speech to Killie fans after his last game in charge of the club before taking on the national team job.

After defeating Rangers 2-1 to secure a historic third-place finish at the end of the 2018/19 season, Clarke took the mic to thank a packed-out Rugby Park.

He said: "But I'm telling you now as I stand here in front of three stands with Kilmarnock supporters, bye bye Rangers.

"And next season make sure it's bye bye Celtic as well because this is Kilmarnock."

Now, though, John has deleted the post and issued an apology over the remark and apologised to his father for putting him in an "awkward and wholly unnecessary position".

He wrote: "Yesterday evening I made a post regarding the Rangers result.

"I've realised it was in poor taste and would like apologise for it.

"I have since removed the post.

"I would also like to apologise to my dad for putting him in an awkward and wholly unnecessary position.

"He had absolutely nothing to do with the post and it was my error of judgment.

"I made a poor joke without thinking of the consequences. That's on me and no one else."
