Steve Bannon Warns Of Impending World Conflict Under Trump Administration

Former U.S. President Donald Trump holds a campaign rally in Hialeah

Former chief strategist Steve Bannon, a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump, has raised concerns about a potential world conflict that he believes could become 'Trump's Vietnam.' Bannon has been using his platform, a daily radio show and podcast, to advocate for Trump to announce on his first day in office that he will swiftly end the war in Ukraine.

In interviews, Bannon has expressed urgency for Trump to address the situation in Ukraine in his Inauguration Day speech, cautioning that various entities, including the U.S. defense industry, European allies, and even some of Bannon's acquaintances, are pressuring the U.S. to continue providing military aid to Ukraine. Bannon specifically criticized retired U.S. general Keith Kellogg, whom Trump appointed as a special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, for advocating continued aid without ensuring security guarantees against Russian aggression.

Bannon warned that prolonging the conflict in Ukraine could lead the U.S. into a quagmire akin to the Vietnam War, emphasizing the importance of aligning U.S. actions with national interests. He urged for immediate action to prevent further entanglement in a war that he believes cannot be won.

Highlighting the need for a swift resolution, Bannon stressed the significance of Trump conveying a message of change to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and drawing parallels to Trump's diplomatic pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Bannon also criticized NATO, characterizing it as more of an American protectorate than a true alliance, and questioned European commitment to defense spending and readiness.

Regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bannon acknowledged his negative perception but downplayed concerns about Russian influence in Europe, citing the lack of significant Russian military advances in Ukraine. Bannon also expressed support for Trump's proposals related to U.S. strategic interests in Greenland and the Panama Canal.

Turning to European leaders, Bannon criticized figures like Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron for their handling of the Ukraine conflict, labeling Johnson a 'war criminal' and accusing European leaders of failing to prioritize defense spending and military readiness. Bannon warned of the consequences of European leaders' ambitions without adequate commitment to defense.
