Stetson Bennett Addresses Recent Arrest During NFL Scouting Combine

Former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett is working out at the NFL scouting combine this week, as he looks to become the latest Bulldogs quarterback to find an NFL home.

The two-time national championship quarterback is not without some off-field baggage, though. Bennett was arrested in Dallas at the end of January for public intoxication, after police say they responded to reports of a man banging on doors of homes in the middle of the night. Police found Bennett and “determined he was intoxicated,” which led to his arrest in Old East Dallas.

Bennett addressed the arrest with the media for the first time on Friday morning.

“It was a mistake that, you know, everyone is aware of,” Bennett said. “I understand, you know, why that can’t happen. I’ve talked to coaches about it. I’ve talked to GMs and I apologized to my family, because that’s who I felt worst about. I felt like I let them down because no matter where I go now, and even without all this, I’ve got an obligation. I’m the fourth. Can’t do that if your last name is Bennett. I know better.”

While Bennett is not considered one of the draft’s top prospects at quarterback, he’s a proven winner at the college level and is expected to hear his name called in the later rounds of the draft next month.

Bennett leaves the Bulldogs as the signal caller of back-to-back national championship teams, and will be forever hailed in Athens for what he did on the field.

However, it’s what he’s done off the field recently that has garnered headlines, and it’s something that he hopes he can put behind him in pursuit of his professional career.
