Sterling K. Brown Regrets Impersonating Common On Saturday Night Live

Sterling K. Brown impersonated Common on SNL

Sterling K. Brown, known for his role in the hit TV show This Is Us, recently shared an interesting encounter he had with rapper Common after impersonating him on Saturday Night Live. Brown recalled meeting Common on an airplane shortly after the sketch aired in 2018. Initially, Common remained silent until they disembarked, when he approached Brown and questioned him about the sketch. Brown assured Common that it was all in good fun and that he had no ill intentions.

However, during their conversation, Common led Brown to believe that the sketch had negatively impacted his career. Brown was told that he had lost speaking engagements and endorsements as a result of the impersonation. This revelation caused Brown to panic, as he realized the potential consequences of his actions. He expressed his concern to Common, who then revealed that he was just joking and that there were no actual repercussions.

Relieved, Brown jokingly told Common that it was the worst thing he had ever done, as he had believed he had ruined the rapper's life. The encounter highlighted the power of comedy and the potential impact it can have on individuals, even if it is meant in jest.

In the sketch titled 'Family Feud: Oscars Edition,' Brown portrayed Common, rapping his answers to host Steve Harvey's questions. In one of his lines, Brown humorously remarked, 'You ain't no rapper, you're more like a TED Talk set to music.' The sketch featured a friendly competition between Oscars winners and losers, with Common being one of the nominees.

Common, a talented rapper and actor, has been nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars for his work in films such as Selma in 2015 and Marshall in 2018. Despite the initial misunderstanding, it seems that both Brown and Common were able to laugh off the situation and maintain a positive relationship.

Saturday Night Live, the long-running comedy show, continues to entertain audiences with its satirical sketches and celebrity impersonations. The show can be streamed on Peacock, providing viewers with a dose of laughter and entertainment.

As Brown shared his story, it serves as a reminder that comedy should be approached with sensitivity and respect, as it can have unintended consequences. It also highlights the importance of open communication and clarifying intentions to avoid misunderstandings. Ultimately, this encounter between Brown and Common ended on a positive note, with both individuals able to appreciate the humor and move forward.
