Stephen Robinson 'would suit' Aberdeen role as Alan Burrows connection opens up St Mirren boss option

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson would be a perfect candidate for the vacant Aberdeen job. That's according to Open Goal Podcast host Simon Ferry, who believes the Buddies head coach would suit the Dons' philosophy.

Both Jim Goodwin and Stephen Glass have come and gone within the past two years after Derek McInnes enjoyed a largely successful eight-year tenure in the Granite City. It's been six weeks since Goodwin was axed amid a dismal run of form, with former star Barry Robson currently leading an interim coaching team at Pittodrie.

Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently reported Robinson was attracting interest from teams in Scotland and across the border, with his side pushing for a top-six Premiership finish. New Aberdeen CEO Alan Burrows worked with Robinson at Motherwell, and Ferry reckons the Northern Irishman could be someone Dave Cormack could go for. He told Grosvenor Sport: "Aberdeen were successful under Derek McInnes. They then hired Stephen Glass who couldn’t get the results. Jim Goodwin couldn’t either so who knows where Aberdeen go now.

"They need to hire someone who can get results. Gordon Strachan would be a great appointment, Barry Robson has worked with Gordon before and he’s done well since taking over from Jim Goodwin.

"Another name they could go for now that Alan Burrows has joined the club is Stephen Robinson from St Mirren. He’s done a great job there and I think he’d suit the Aberdeen fans and the style of play they want to see at Pittodrie."
