Stephen Robinson urges St Mirren to get what they 'deserve' in race for top six

Stephen Robinson has urged St Mirren to get what they 'deserve' in the race for the Premiership's top six.

But he cautioned a ‘fantastic’ win over Livingston counts for nothing if they fail to get over the line.

The Paisley side are in pole position for a place in the upper half of the table following a brilliant display. A first-half blitz of their visitors produced three goals and moves them up to fifth with three games until the split.

Two penalties from Mark O’Hara were the catalyst and a Tony Watt strike made the points safe. Robinson says he is ‘desperate’ for his players to now be rewarded for an impressive campaign.

“The first-half was fantastic,” said Robinson. “Our energy and our press was excellent. We got two penalties from putting the ball into areas and making them defend. We weathered a five-minute spell at the start of the second-half and I didn’t think they troubled us too much.

“This game was never do-or-die, there’s no point winning this game and not getting anything from the next three. But for Livingston and St Mirren to be around the top six reflects really well on both clubs.

“We need to go and get results. It’s simple. There’s a lot of competition, a lot of good teams. We don’t get too carried away. We don’t listen to too much noise when we lose games and when we win we remind each other what we did well. So if you stop doing those things you don’t win football matches.

“Nobody will get carried away. To be sitting here in fifth place with three games to go is an incredible achievement given what’s been going on over the past year at the club financially and the cuts that have been made. That’s credit to the players and I’m desperate for them to finish off the season and get what they deserve.”
