Stephen Robinson felt the 5-1 scoreline against Celtic did not reflect how his St Mirren team performed in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.
The Buddies were only a goal down up until the last 15 minutes when Ange Postecoglou’s side were awarded a penalty for handball and Richard Taylor was subsequently shown a red card.
From there Saints conceded two before grabbing a goal of their own on 87 minutes, but Celtic added another two deep into stoppage time to pile on the misery.
It was a disappointing evening for Robinson, but he is now fully concentrated on achieving a top-six finish with his side.
He said: “I think anyone who watched the game for 75 minutes will have seen that there was nothing in the game.
“That is an amazing thing to say with the talent they have on show. We came and pressed them and we created chances.
“The penalty changes the whole aspect of the game. It is hard enough with eleven, but when you go down to ten men it is virtually an impossible task at 2-0 down.
“They punished us for that but I have nothing but praise for the players.”
He continued: “They are top players and top boys. Now we have to try and push on into the top six.
“Considering the circumstances at this football club at the moment would be an incredible achievement.
“I think they have shown today and over the course of the season that we are good enough to do that.”
