Stephen Robinson praises under fire Curtis Main for 'excellent' performance in St Johnstone win

Buddies boss Stephen Robinson paid tribute to striker Curtis Main for helping to drive his team forward to a pivotal victory in Perth.

Main has drawn some serious criticism from sections of St Mirren supporters this season after a string of underwhelming performances, having notched just three goals in 33 appearances in all competitions.

But the forward was at his bustling best at McDiarmid Park, with Robinson insisting he knows what the former Motherwell and Aberdeen man can bring to the club when he's firing on all cylinders.

Robinson said: "I am delighted with the performance. Obviously the result was everything, but the character we showed and how we started was excellent.

"We had a lot of good bits last week, a lot of good defensive stuff and carried that on.

"We showed quality, especially in the second half going forward, where we were just a little bit calmer on the ball.

"The two centre forwards set the tone. They were a handful all day.

"Curtis Main was excellent. That's the Main I know from Motherwell.

"He's had a little bit of stick here before I came, but I know what I can get out of him and today he showed that.

"When you have two boys chasing you down like that, it makes it hard for them and easier for our defenders."
