Stephen Robinson on Rangers penalty call and St Mirren frustration

STEPHEN ROBINSON reckons St Mirren were worthy of all three points as a VAR penalty call denied them victory over Rangers.

The Buddies stormed into a second half lead when Jonah Ayunga scored at the second attempt after being denied by keeper Allan McGregor.

But a James Tavernier spot-kick earned Rangers a share of the spoils as referee Kevin Clancy had to reverse a decision to book Ryan Kent for diving.

Robinson said: “We are disappointed not to take all three points. That shows how far we have come.

“I thought we sat back a little after going ahead and that is the eighth penalty against us in 15 games.

“Though it was a penalty and I have no complaints. That is what VAR is for.

“But, I didn't see them scoring any other way. I thought we were great defensively and very good on the break as well.

“That is our eighth game unbeaten at home which is fantastic. We actually feel aggrieved that we don't have a better points tally.

“We wonder where we could be with a little but more luck but hopefully that evens itself out over the season. I couldn't be more proud of the players.

“We fight against the odds and they are the best group of boys I have worked with. There is a lot to build on."

St Mirren were well worthy of their point in Paisley and can now look forward to a break after an encouraging first half of the season in the Premiership.

Robinson has been linked with a move to Championship side Luton Town in recent days but played down the prospect of a return south of the border.

Robinson said: "I wouldn’t put your money on! Listen I am linked every time it comes up. Super football club I have great memories but there has been no contact."
