Stephen Robinson believes his Buddies were unfortunate to see Celtic break their resilient defence last night.
St Mirren were holding firm until the second half when a set piece fell kindly for Cameron Carter-Vickers to slam home and open the scoring.
Callum McGregor doubled the Hoops' lead in similar circumstances, with a cross into the box dropping perfectly to the Scotland international who fired in a decisive second.
Robinson insists he was more than pleased with the defensive efforts of his side but admits they needed to be braver on the ball to come away from Glasgow with a positive result.
Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: "It’s frustrating. They had a lot of possession, a lot of possession in front of us.
"Defensively I thought we were excellent. We were really well organised and got to half-time and they created minimal chances. Second half until the goal I’m not sure Jak had many saves to make.
"“It was two ricochets in the box, one that fell to Carter-Vickers and the other comes off Conor McCarthy’s face and lands straight at Callum McGregor.
"If you are going to come to Celtic Park and lose it’s usually a 30 yard wondergoal or a bit of combination play. It wasn’t.
"I thought we were really disciplined, really organised. We can be braver on the ball, that’s the biggest thing out of the last two games I’ve learned. It’s something we have to get better at.
"The boys executed the plan very well. I only set them up, it’s them that deserve the credit. They didn’t feel under any kind of threat.
"I’ve been here a lot of times where you think you could end up losing 15-0 the way Celtic are playing. We didn’t feel like that at all at any stage.
"We felt in control out of possession and we just weren’t quite good enough on the ball to create things or get ourselves up the pitch often enough to actually earn a point or three points.”
St Mirren stifled the home side with a dogged defensive performance last night at, holding the Hoops level at half-time and limiting the hosts to very few clear cut chances.
The Paisley side were hoping to repeat the feat after the break, but soon found themselves facing a mountain to climb when defender Carter-Vickers produced a striker’s finish to slam Celtic in front.
And Hoops captain McGregor made sure of the result with a composed low finish to put the game beyond the Saints, with the club still waiting for a first win since Jim Goodwin joined Aberdeen.
Next up for Robinson is another tough test on the road, this time a long trip north to face in-form Ross County in Dingwall on Saturday.
A win there is imperative to ensure the Paisley side don’t slip further out of the top six race, with a game still in hand against Dundee yet to come next Wednesday night.
