ST MIRREN manager Stephen Robinson bemoaned a lack of belief in his side after they went down to a heavy defeat at Celtic Park.
The Saints boss was pleased with much of his team’s performance despite the four-goal loss to Celtic, but having set up in an attacking vein with two strikers up top, he admitted he was a little disappointed that his men didn’t put up a better fight, particularly when they had chances in attacking areas.
Coupled with the concession of what he saw as soft goals, he believes that his side got what they deserved.
“We set up positive with two centre-forwards again,” Robinson said.
“I thought our shape was good, Trevor (Carson) hasn't been peppered with shots but we conceded two set-plays. That's the first set-plays we have conceded this season and you don't want to be doing that against a team of that quality.
"The second goal is an incredible finish, sometimes you have to hold your hands up, but we feel we are better than what we showed.
"We expected to put in a better fight than that. There was a lot of desire and energy but we just lacked a little bit of belief and quality when we landed on the ball for a 20-minute period and that killed us against a very good side.
"Yes,there were some decent performances but if you have maybe seven off it or not quite at the top of their game…because you need to be at the very top of your game like we were in the first game to get a result. We didn't have that throughout.”
