Stephen Robinson believes deadline day signings Tony Watt and Thierry Small will give the Saints a cutting edge once they are match sharp.
Both loan signings came on as substitutes in St Mirren’s narrow 1-0 home defeat to Hibs on Saturday, having also made their debuts off the bench at Pittodrie three days earlier.
Buddies boss Robinson is confident the duo will be vital additions to the squad once they’re back up to full speed, following spells on the sidelines at Port Vale and Dundee United.
Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “Both boys aren’t ready to start games at this moment in time. They’ve played very little football recently.
“Thierry is a very young boy, only 18, and he’s got lots of energy, enthusiasm and quality.
“Tony, we know what he can do but we need to get both of them up to match speed which is difficult when you’ve got games.
“They give us options certainly and it’s important we do get them up to speed quickly.
“We’ve raised expectations through the group of players here in the dressing room. They’ve been absolutely fantastic and they’ll reset themselves [after the Hibs defeat].
“We’ve got a run of league games after the cup game against Celtic that we believe we can pick up a lot of points in.”
