Stephen Robinson at St Mirren for the long haul, insists Keith Lasley

Keith Lasley has insisted that Stephen Robinson is an integral part of St Mirren's progress as he vowed to do all he can to keep the manager in Paisley.

On the pitch, St Mirren have enjoyed back-to-back top-six finishes and a return to European football for the first time in 37 years under Robinson's leadership in the past two years.

Off of it and Robinson has been a key contributor to advancing infrastructure and structures to stand the club in good stead for the future. A rebuilding of the academy after it was ravaged by Covid, heavy investment in the training facilities and an operational player trading model have all come with major involvement and buy-in from Robinson.

For club chief operating officer Lasley, the future the club is building for is one with Robinson remaining at the helm.

Robinson has been touted for numerous vacancies in his time in Paisley with Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts and Sunderland all credited with an interest in the experienced manager. But Lasley is determined Robinson will remain in place at St Mirren for years to come.

"Absolutely. We are determined that Stephen will stay," he said when quizzed on the impact of the Northern Irishman.

"I think he's enjoying his time and he is having a fantastic impact on the club - not just at first team level but across the board in terms of playing a key role in putting the building blocks in place for what we feel will help not just in the immediate season but will help the club in the future.

"We are very much aligned and we absolutely want him to stay here for the long term.

"Nothing will change. Football is what it is and things happen but from our point of view in the long term is with Stephen in charge and that's the way we are planning moving forward."
