Stephen Merchant has shared a throwback photo to commemorate this weekend's Jubilee celebrations. Posting to Instagram, the star of Bristol crime comedy The Outlaws shared a photograph of himself enjoying festivities at a Bristol street party back in 1977.
Alongside the photo, Stephen wrote: "#TBT. Here I am getting papped at a Jubilee ‘77 street party. Can’t a boy just eat his jelly in peace?
"Enjoy your jubilee weekend - and don’t forget to celebrate with The Outlaws Season 2 on Sunday at 9pm, BBC One and @bbciplayer. #jubilee #streetparty #jelly #queenelizabeth." He shared the hashtag 'TBT' or 'Throwback Thursday' with his post, too - a tag that many people use on social media when sharing old photos and videos of themselves for a bit of nostalgia.

And his picture definitely doesn't disappoint - from the vintage Union Jack crowns atop the children's heads, to the assortment of cakes and retro crisp packets and, what seems like the longest bench in the whole of Bristol. Hoods are up, so it's likely that it was raining that day and yet jelly (with sprinkles) is certainly making up for it - for some of the kids anyway.
In the comments, Stephen's followers said the photograph was "so cute" and called the little version of the actor and comedian "adorable". Others asked him if he thought he had "aged well" since the photo was taken while some began to reminisce about where they celebrated on that day.
One commenter wrote: "I have the exact same photo of me in 77 but with fashionable pudding bowl haircut." While another said: "Ha ha, I’ve still got the polyester jubilee t shirt, might put the dog in it!"
Stephen was born in the Hanham suburb of Bristol and has reflected on his childhood in the city before. He has not forgotten his roots and last month he backed the campaign to save Redfield cinema.
