Stephen Kenny was an emotional figure in front of TV cameras as Ireland produced their best performance under the manager in a 3-0 victory over Scotland.
Pressure was on the Ireland boss after back to back defeats against Armenia and a second string Ukraine side in the UEFA Nations League.
But Ireland responded with a stunning victory in front of an energetic Aviva Stadium.
Alan Browne opened the scoring from a James McClean corner before a stunning Michael Obafemi pass was dinked onto Troy Parrott's head as the youngster finished with a deft header.
And Obafemi stole the show with an excellent long range strike in the second half to cap off a sunny evening in Dublin.
Kenny appeared in front of Tony O'Donoghue in his post match interview and cut a relieved figure as Ireland gear up for a clash against Ukraine next week.
Speaking to the national broadcaster, Kenny was asked if his confidence was dented after the last two losses.
"No. absolutely not. We know what we're doing and we've had setbacks.
"We were on a great run but we've had setbacks which really hurt us but the players have absolute conviction in the group.
"We're not perfect yet, there's a lot of growth in this squad and this team. We had some good players missing today so we can continue to try and improve."
He added: "Goals make such a difference and once you get them the crowd are up again and the player's confidence is up and we managed the game very well and controlled the game."
