Stephen Fry will present the weekday entertainment show which will provide nostalgia for fans of the iconic quiz show and introduce Jeopardy! to a brand new audience.
The quiz show will air on ITV this autumn and will run for 20 episodes as contestants battle it out using their general knowledge in the hopes of winning the prize fund.
Quiz players will amass winnings in each round and will attempt to stay on until the very end with the new UK version introducing an extra round compared to the original format.
Stephen Fry said: “In the United States, Jeopardy! is a phenomenon like no other. Whenever I’m in America, I do my damnedest to catch it every weekday."
"The idea of hosting it here in the UK makes me dizzy with delight. Such a dedicated quizzing nation as ours will, I hope, welcome this uniquely beguiling and endlessly rewarding game.”
The American classic quiz show first appeared on our screens in the UK in the 1980s but it's been on air in the United States since 1964.
Jeopardy! is known for its unique concept of revealing the answers before the questions - in a nerve-wracking spin on the usual quiz format.
Contestants hear clues before buzzing in with the correct corresponding question.
Successful quizzers have the opportunity to win a large cash prize and winners of each show get the chance to continue a streak on the programme until they are defeated by another contestant.
Katie Rawcliffe, ITV Head of Entertainment said: “Bringing Jeopardy! to a brand new audience as part of our weekday schedule is exciting. There is no one better to host this classic game show than Stephen, bringing knowledge and entertainment to all of our viewers.”
Jeopardy! is a Whisper North production for ITV1 and ITVX. The executive producers are Kerri Reid, Tom McLennan and Stephen Fry. It was commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe, ITV Head of Entertainment and Leanne Clarke, ITV Entertainment Commissioner.
The original U.S. quiz show is produced by Sony Pictures Television, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, which is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution along with the format rights.
