SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn has called into question the Prime Minister’s positive relations with Donald Trump following the US president’s sudden withdrawal of military aid to Ukraine.
The USA has suspended all military aid to Ukraine, following last week’s tense Oval Office exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump.
The pause comes into effect as Trump seeks to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to engage in peace talks with Russia.
Prior to the development, the Prime Minister said on Monday that Britain must “strengthen” its relationship with America. He told parliament: “We must strengthen our relationship with America, for our security, for our technology, for our trade and investment.
"They are and always will be indispensable and we will never choose between either side of the Atlantic.”
Responding to the most recent developments from The United States, Flynn said on Twitter/X: “Yesterday, I asked the Prime Minister if the Trump was on the brink of withdrawing military aid to Ukraine. He told me this was not their position.”
The post continued: “Today, Trump has suspended military aid to Ukraine. Why does the PM believe Trump is a reliable ally?”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer had previously gifted Trump an invitation from the King to come to one of his Scottish properties at a future date, prompting outcry from Scottish parties.

Flynn, who has been at the forefront of criticisms pointed towards the USA, said in response to the invitation: “Starmer had better get back up off his knees and revoke that offer of a state visit.”
This sparked condemnation from a Labour MP who slammed the post as “juvenile and childish”.
A petition to cancel the upcoming visit has gone viral, gathering over 150,000 signatures in less than a week. The Prime Minister dismissed the petition.
