Stephen Curry Slated To Start After 2nd All-Star Voting Returns

Stephen Curry has moved ahead of Luka Doncic in the latest All-Star fan voting, so he could be starting once again.

Doncic and Shai-Gilgeous Alexander were the leading vote-getters among West guards after the first returns, but it’s possible the Slovenian’s absence due to a calf injury has seen him drop down the pecking order.

Last season was the first time in 10 All-Star appearances Curry came off the bench.

The West’s starting frontcourt remains the same, with Nikola Jokic currently accompanied by Kevin Durant and LeBron James. The latter two are separated by just over 2,000 votes.

Making a big climb is San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama, who is seriously capturing the imagination of the fans with his mindboggling highlights while the Spurs ascend up the standings.

The starters in the East saw no changes as overall leading vote-getter Giannis Antetokounmpo — by nearly 500,000 votes over Jokic — is joined by Jayson Tatum, Karl-Anthony Towns, LaMelo Ball and Donovan Mitchell.

Ball Surprising Leader

It is very surprising to see Ball continue to be the main man among guards in the East.

This is a pretty stacked category, with Damian Lillard, Jalen Brunson, Trae Young, Tyrese Maxey, Cade Cunningham and Tyler Herro all on the outside looking in.

Worth remembering at this stage is the fan voting accounts for 50 percent of the total vote, with current players accounting for another 25 percent and select media members another 25 percent.

Ball is having a strong season statistically, averaging 29.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.4 steals. He is, however, playing for a Charlotte Hornets team that sits at 8-27 on the season.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland earlier stated he hopes to see all four Cavs stars in the All-Star game. Mitchell is the only one currently slated to do so as a starter.

All-Star Voting

Voting ends on Jan. 20 and there are now three triple voting days that could make things very interesting.

Those days are Jan. 10, 17 and 20.

There are three All-Star teams this year, so even though the voting will determine 10 starters, there will be an additional five starters to be determined later.

The All-Star Game will be played on Sunday, Feb. 16 in San Francisco’s Chase Center.
