But the 41-year-old made a surprise return to the squad on Sunday for Dublin's 0-16 to 1-6 win over Louth.
After the game, Cluxton was spotted on Niall Scully's Instagram page cleaning the dressing room after the win.
The news should come as no surprise to anyone who is familiar with the Parnells man.
After the 2019 All-Ireland final, the keeper was also spotted cleaning the dressing room while the rest of the Dublin players celebrated.
Despite not getting any game time today, Cluxton's return is sure to have boosted Dubs fans spirits.
After the game, Dublin manager spoke about Cluxton's comeback.
“No, he didn’t," Farrell said when asked if the keeper needed much convincing.
"He’s Dublin through and through. He’s always said he’s willing to help out if the need arose and the need has arose. We’re delighted to have him in the mix.”
