Stephen A. Smith urges Warriors to make a trade: ‘You can’t waste Steph Curry’

The Golden State Warriors have slumped to a 6-9 start to the new season, and are currently outside of play-in territory in the difficult Western Conference despite MVP-caliber play from Steph Curry.

Curry dropped 50 points on Wednesday night in Phoenix, but it wasn’t enough to avoid an 11-point loss to the Suns. Curry is second in the league in both scoring (32.8 points per game) and Player Efficiency Rating (31.52), but the Warriors’ bottom-four defense and underwhelming performances from the rest of the roster have contributed to a disappointing start.

According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, the Warriors need to make a big move in the trade market. Instead of relying on developing players around Curry, Smith wants the Warriors to make a call to Brooklyn to try to land Kevin Durant.

“Their attitude was ‘we’re the reigning, defending champions, and we believe we’ve got a chance to repeat with our squad.’ They believed in their squad. Now if you have changed and you no longer believe in some of those young guys… are you ready for this? Go ahead and make the trade for Kevin Durant…. because you can’t waste Steph Curry playing like this. You can’t take this for granted, you can’t waste it.

…. I came into the season believing that they could [repeat]. I don’t believe now based on what I’ve seen.”
