Recently, Steph Curry made the claim he was the greatest point guard in the history of the NBA. However, the Golden State Warriors guard noted “he had to answer it this way,” as the alternative would have been naming Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson.
However, during a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, Stephen A Smith sided with Curry, agreeing that the sharpshooting All-Star is the greatest point guard to ever lace them up. Smith’s argument is based on Curry’s impact on the game of basketball and how his shooting has seen a change in how teams view the 3-point shot.
‘I’m talking impact. Steph Curry is the greatest shooter God has ever created. His marksmanship is unrivaled. He is a career 42.8% shooter from 3-point range. There are people who haven’t shot 40% from three in one season — most haven’t. This dude does it religiously. He’s a 90% shooter from the free-throw line.

And he’s a four-time champion. … Steph Curry’s movement without the basketball, because he’s such a lethal shooter, scares and petrifies defenses so much that the impact is profound. … From the point guard position, I’m talking about that Steph Curry’s impact is greater than even Earvin Magic Johnson.”
Curry’s career has been exceptional. Entering his age-35 season, Curry is likely to continue playing at an elite level for the foreseeable future and potentially challenging for championships along the way. You may agree or disagree with Curry and Smith regarding his place as the greatest guard of all time, but his impact is unquestionable.
