Footie legend Stephanie Roche has said it as “crazy” people thought she’d be Cristiano Ronaldo’s next girlfriend after a photo at the FIFA Awards went viral.
The Dubliner was nominated for the 2014 FIFA Puskas award for her stunning goal for Peamount – her then club – against Wexford Youths.
And despite missing out on the award, the stunning striker hit headlines after a picture from the ceremony which showed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi focusing their attentions on the Irish international as she strode past the stars.

Speaking about the moment, which went viral, the Dancing With The Stars hopeful said: “I think that photo is something that has stuck in people’s memories because it really was an amazing photo, you know?
“It was mad that I was in the photo. Funny story: a couple of weeks after Ronaldo broke up with his girlfriend at that time, there were bookies odds on who his next girlfriend was going to be and I think I was one of the favourites.
“I was like, ‘Ah, for God’s sake!’ So, it was a bit crazy at the time.
“Even now, people talk to me about the goal.”
Opening up about the famous goal, she told the RTE Guide: “I think what was different was that, not only was it a goal scored from Ireland being among the best in the world, but also that it was a female goal scorer being up there with the best in the world.
“After it happened, the media attention was more than I ever thought it would be. Everyone was quite nice about it and then after the awards, it was just back to reality.
“It was only later that I took the magnitude of what it was.
“I was a typical Irish person at the time of ‘Ah yeah, it was grand.’ It was only afterwards that I realised that it was pretty cool.”
Stephanie also opened up about competing for the glitterball trophy on Dancing With The Stars, admitting it has been “nerve wracking”.
It is all very much out of my comfort zone, but I have enjoyed the dancing and learning the movements and the steps and all that.
“But I am very nervous. I have never had nerves before matches. I would get pre-match jitters, the kind that show that you care,” she added.
