Stephanie Frappart becomes first female referee to take charge of men’s Champions League match

French referee Stephanie Frappart has become the first female official to take charge of a men’s Uefa Champions League match.

The 36-year-old refereed Wednesday night’s Group G clash between Juventus and Dynamo Kyiv in Turin.

Frappart had previously refereed two Europa League matches and has taken charge of 18 fixtures in Ligue 1 since making her debut in the French top flight in April last year.

She also refereed the Uefa Super Cup match between Liverpool and Chelsea in Istanbul last year, as well as the women's World Cup final.

Italian champions Juventus ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in Wednesday night’s games, with Federico Chiesa, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata on the scoresheet.

Andrea Pirlo’s side had already secured qualification for the last-16, but will have to beat Barcelona by at least three goals when the two giants meet on the final matchday next week if they are to top the group.
