Steph’s Packed Lunch: Strictly star John Whaite’s Hollywood look-a-like claim leaves Steph stunned

Winner of The Great British Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing runner-up John Whaite left everyone shocked by his confession when discussing the topic of celebrity lookalikes. On Channel 4’s daytime show Steph’s Packed Lunch, the 32-year-old claimed to be told that he looks like a Hollywood actor on a weekly basis.

For this edition of the programme, host Steph McGovern was joined by comedian Russell Kane and former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, alongside Whaite, and the quartet were suggesting who each of them looked like from the celebrity world. The conversation began by John telling everyone that he looked like acting royalty Kiefer Sutherland.

The actor has appeared in blockbusters Stand by Me, A Few Good Men and The Three Musketeers. Additionally, he was widely recognised for his starring role as Jack Bauer in the Fox drama series 24, for which he won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Satellite Awards.

But perhaps his biggest achievement will be finding out that numerous people think he bears more than a passing resemblance to many people’s celebrity crush - John Whaite. Saying that he gets told this regularly, McGovern couldn’t believe this admission.

The presenter claimed “Eh! What! You look nothing like him,” leading to John admitting that he doesn’t understand why he gets told this either, while Russell jokingly suggested that people were getting him mixed up with Donald Sutherland. Jacqui chipped in with a far more reasonable shout, saying “I think you look more like Ben Affleck.”

The focus of attention then turned to Russell, who said he regularly gets stopped by people thinking he's BBC Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw before a side-by-side comparison showed his resemblance to Eurovision 2022 host Mika, which went down far better. Most amusingly, Steph posed the question: “Don’t you think he really looks like the donkey out of Shrek,” and the similarities were uncanny.

McGovern also suggested that he looks like the talking snowman Olaf from Frozen, before joking “We can’t afford to show him.” The host concluded the conversation by saying that she always gets told she looks like Desperate Dan, While Kane proposed Fred from Scooby Doo.
