Steph Curry is set to join basketball greats Michael Jordan and LeBron James in an exclusive club by signing a mega-money deal ahead of the new NBA season. Curry is currently in a contract with Under Armour, which is set to expire in 2024.
The four-time NBA champion is set to sign a lifetime extension though, said to be worth more than $1billion (£867m) according to Rolling Stone . This therefore leaves the 34-year-old in lucrative company alongside Jordan and Janes, in NBA players to break the eye-watering billion-dollar mark.
The Golden State Warriors man initially signed a $4 million (£3.5m) a year deal with Under Armour after leaving Nike in 2013.
His deal and relationship then grew with the sports brand, and after signing a new contract in 2015, this rose to $20m (£17.4m) per year. Despite putting pen to paper on his lifetime commitment, it has not always been plane sailing for Curry and Under Armour.
Back in 2018 the the 34-year-old threatened to end his relationship with the brand due to a lack of 'understanding' between the two parties. Discussing his previous difficulties with Under Armour Curry told Rolling Stone: "Certain things needed to change, or else," due to differences with founder Kevin Plank.
Seemingly though both the sports brand and the Golden State Warriors have come to a resolution in the form of Curry's forever commitment.
Opening up on putting their differences aside to strike the deal he commented: "I don’t have to raise my voice to get mad. That’s the best part about it.”
Heading into the new campaign as a defending champion, Curry discussed the of one day getting the opportunity to reunite with Kevin Durant following his reported unrest at the Brooklyn Nets. I"f you said, 'Oh KD's coming back, and we're gonna play with him,' I had so much fun playing with him those three years, I'd be like, 'Hell yeah!' He added.
"If anybody's saying that you wouldn't entertain that conversation -- no disrespect to anybody on our team -- but you don't know how things work. But you also understand, like, if we run this thing back, I've got complete confidence in my team that we can win it again, as constructed."
