SAN FRANCISCO — Jonathan Kuminga has shown glimpses of his two-way potential this season.
But a glaring hole in his game has been his unsteady outside shot.
That wasn’t a problem Friday night in the Golden State Warriors’ 129-117 win over the Toronto Raptors.
After a slow start, the flood gates opened for Kuminga in a 2:49 span at the end of the third. Kuminga went 4-for-4 from deep to close out the quarter. He drained his last one with about a second left to put the Warriors up 98-94.
Kuminga played the final 2:30 of the game after Kevon Looney fouled out. He finished with 15 points — 14 of which were scored in the second half — going 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-6 from downtown.
While Kuminga has made plenty of highlight reel dunks over his first two seasons in the league, his 3-point shooting remains a work in progress. His 3-point shooting clip dipped from 33.6% as a rookie to 28.8% this season. Kuminga has said that’s an area of his game he hopes to continue to improve as he continues to develop into a potential foundational piece for the franchise’s future.
While Kuminga’s scoring helped put the Warriors’ ahead at the end of the third, it was Stephen Curry & Co. who helped put the game away.
Curry scored nine of his game-high 35 points in the fourth, giving the fans plenty to cheer about along the way. He drilled a 3 from the top of the key to give the Warriors’ a nine-point advantage with 3:29 remaining. Curry skipped to the other side before egging the fans sitting near the baseline as the Raptors called a timeout. Later, Curry, who had a double-double tallying 11 assists, too, would shimmy while facing the direction of the visitor’s bench.
The Raptors would never get within seven the rest of the way.
Klay Thompson added 29 points, Donte DiVincenzo had a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 assists.
The 25-24 Warriors have now won two straight games for the first time since Jan. 2. They will hit the road for three games, beginning Monday in Oklahoma City.
