Steph Curry opens up on future retirement plans

It’s hard to imagine the NBA without Steph Curry. The Golden State Warriors guard has been one of the more prominent faces in the league for more than a decade. Unfortunately, a time will come when Curry decides to call an end to a Hall of Fame-worthy career.

Heading into the upcoming season, Curry will be 35 years old and on the final stretch of his illustrious career. During a recent interview on “Today,” Curry discussed his future in the NBA and how his inevitable retirement is working as motivation for his final few seasons in the league.

“The thoughts (of retirement) do creep in of what that timeline really looks like,” Curry said. “I know it almost puts into perspective how important these next two, three years are in terms of doubling down on the level that I want to be at and continue to play at, and pushing it to the limit as long as I can

“I just love the fact the timeline almost just gives me much more motivation for the now to take advantage of every opportunity that I have because, you know, the ball is going to stop bouncing at some point.”

Despite his advancing years, Curry has continued to play at an elite level. Last season, the Warriors guard averaged 29.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists, shooting 42.7% from 3-point range and 49.3% from the field.

As his game isn’t based on athleticism, Curry could likely play deep into his 30s, which would allow him a few more years to add championships to his resume. Curry will also spend the upcoming season playing alongside Chris Paul, who is 38, which should provide additional insight into how the veteran guard takes care of his body at such a late stage in his career.

Fortunately, Curry doesn’t sound like he believes retirement is on the horizon, so Warriors fans can continue to enjoy his dominance for a few more years to come.
