Jonathan Kuminga was arguably the best player on the floor for the Golden State Warriors during their win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday (Jan. 24.) The third-year forward ended the game with 100% shooting from the field, making all 11 of his shots while contributing 25 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks off the bench.
When speaking to the media after the game, Steph Curry shared his thoughts on Kuminga’s performance and his overall growth since the start of the season. Curry praised how Kuminga is being selective with his shot selection and his aggression on the offensive end.
“Obviously, he’s so talented,” Curry said. “He can get to wherever he wants on the floor whenever he’s under control and sees the picture. His only challenge is to continue being aggressive, continue picking and choosing his spots…It’s all about being decisive about what he’s doing. And then, on the defensive end, utilizing that athleticism to help our frontcourt and our backcourt. He’s taking on the challenge, and you can, he’s getting so much better. That’s all you ask for.”
Kuminga has widely been linked with a potential trade away from the Warriors ahead of the February 8 trade deadline. The recent report that he had ‘lost faith’ with Steve Kerr has accentuated the interest surrounding Kuminga’s tenure in the Bay Area.

However, as Kuminga continues to impress for Golden State and continues to prove that he’s a future star in the NBA, it’s increasingly unlikely that the Warriors will part with him unless a genuine star talent is heading to the Warriors in return.
