Steph Curry didn’t want to risk the healing process with latest injury

Steph Curry suffered an ankle injury while facing the Chicago Bulls on March 7. He has missed the Golden State Warriors‘ subsequent three games, two of which have been losses. However, the veteran superstar is expected to return when the Warriors face the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.

On Friday, Curry made himself available to the media. He discussed his approach throughout his latest injury setback, detailing the need for patience and not looking for quick fixes that could potentially make the injury worse or cause a setback.

“You can’t fast-forward or cheat the healing process,” Curry said. “There are some that are kinda on the fence with whether you can push through it and not make it worse, just deal with the pain. I’ve been through all types of injuries and this one was one where there was a certain time frame to let my ankle heal. And then have a little bit of work on the court to build back up. It’s tough to miss games, but you’ve gotta understand you can’t make things worse. Especially with what time of year we’re in right now.”

Curry’s absence has been felt. The veteran guard remains the Warriors’ best player. When he’s not on the court, the team’s offensive structure has to change, which has led to multiple disjointed possessions. Once he’s back in the rotation and playing at his usual level, Golden State will likely continue the surge we saw in recent weeks.

Curry celebrated his 36th birthday on Thursday. As such, he may be looking to extend those celebrations when he faces the Lakers.
