Steph Curry believes Warriors core will retire with the franchise

The Golden State Warriors core trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are all entering the final chapter of their careers. Together, they have led one of the most dominant dynasties in NBA history, winning four championships in the process. Of course, there’s still enough time for them to add a fifth to their career resumes.

Nevertheless, as the trio continues to show signs of aging, the inevitable discourse regarding their tenure in the Bay Area has begun to grow louder. Right now, Thompson looks most likely to leave as he approaches unrestricted free agency in the summer. Yet, when speaking to Malika Andrews on a recent episode of SportsCenter, Curry shared his belief that Golden State’s star trio will all retire with the franchise.

“I think that’s always been a motivator for us,” Curry said. “I think the way that we talk about it is, we wanna not only end our career as a Warrior. Continue to compete at a very high level. But, you wanna end it the right way…I think it’s extremely possible to accomplish both. We just have to protect the identity of who we are, and we’re heading in that direction.”

Draymond Green recently signed a four-year $100 million contract extension with Golden State. Curry has shown no signs of slowing down and remains one of the best players in the NBA. Thompson may have found a new role for himself coming off the bench as a sixth man.

If the Warriors continue to find success with their core unit, and they’re willing to adapt their roles as they continue to age, there’s no reason to believe the front office would split them up. As such, it’s logical to expect Thompson to sign a new deal in the summer and for the franchise to continue working toward getting a fifth ring.
