'Step one complete': Nicola Sturgeon announces she's passed her theory test

NICOLA Sturgeon has announced that she has passed her theory test, after she started learning to drive when stepping down as first minister.

The MSP for Glasgow Southside posted a photo on her Twitter showing she had passed with the caption: “Step one complete.”

It showed a strong score of 50 out of 50 on the multiple choice section of the quiz and 56 out of 75 on hazard perception.

In March, Sturgeon revealed she was in the “early stages” of learning how to drive, describing it as being “part and parcel of the next phase of life”.

She told the BBC that getting behind the wheel was about “achieving a bit of personal freedom”.

Many took to social media to offer their congratulations, including some of Sturgeon’s fellow SNP colleagues.

Minister for mental health Maree Todd said passing was “brilliant” while MP Chris Law replied: “You did it”.

“Well done” said another while a fourth added: “Huge congrats Nicola”.

Sturgeon resigned as first minister back in February and was eventually succeeded in the role by Humza Yousaf.

As well as taking up driving lessons, she also revealed a “new-found love” following her resignation in her column for the Glasgow Times.

She said she was enjoying a new perspective and was taking time to “indulge in her new-found love of hillwalking”.

At the time, she added: “Being first minister was a huge privilege and a job I enjoyed immensely, but the pressures and time demands that come with the role inevitably meant that I too often neglected family and friends and missed out on many special events and celebrations.

“I am trying now to make up for that, and it has been a joy to catch up properly with some of those closest to me.”
