Step back in time: our top 5 Kylie Minogue tunes

Kylie Minogue is officially back! Her comeback single Padam Padam arrives as a first teaser to newly announced album Tension – and unsurprisingly, it’s a dancefloor-ready gem. She has form in this department, after all.

The Aussie pop sensation has announced that the follow-up to 2020’s dance-heavy Disco will be released on September 22, describing the release as a “blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high”.

The album’s lead single, Padam Padam, is produced by Lostboy, who is also credited on Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris’ recent number one single Miracle. Accordingly, it’s an infectious, Euro-inspired dance-pop banger, with a pounding bassline and eccentric hook. Underpinned by a thumping heartbeat, the lyrics describe the chemistry of locking eyes with a stranger in a packed room. “This place is crowdin’ up,” she sings, “I think it’s time for you to takе me out this club.”

Elaborating on her approach to new album Tension, the singer said that “unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’ – it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment, and always trying to service the song. I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom,” she said in a statement.

“The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”

A press release for Tension promises “a record of pleasure-seeking, empowered dance floor bangers and sultry pop cuts.”

Unsurprisingly, the track has sent fans into a frenzy, soaring straight to number one on the UK iTunes Chart and trending on Twitter.

One fan tweeted: “ON REPEAT ONE OF UR BEST SONGS EVER”.

Another said: “What a come back mother !!! This is amazing this is how’s it’s done”

While Minogue-mania continues following the release of Padam Padam, we’ve selected our top five Kylie Minogue tracks that we just can’t get out of our heads..

Can’t Get You Out of My Head

Kylie Minogue tracks don’t get much better than this, and the iconic single still sounds fresh over 20 years on from its release. The chart-topping banger is still a dependable way to rapidly fill up the dancefloor, and even better, it’s coupled with one of the most iconic, distinctive music videos the star has ever created.

Love At First Sight

This is one to get completely lost in; this euphoric love song is clever, catchy and camp all at once, with a hook you can’t help but belt out at the top of your lungs. The infectious lyrics might be simplistic in nature, but they’re ridiculously effective. Unsurprisingly, it’s one of Kylie’s signature songs.

Come Into My World

One of Minogue’s slightly more underrated bangers, Come Into My World is also one of the best dance records the singer has produced. The Recording Academy seem to agree, honouring the track with a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2004.

All the Lovers

Morphing over the years into an unofficial Pride anthem, All the Lovers is three minutes of pure joy, with uplifting lyrics that making the tune an instant Kylie classic. It’s held with huge affection by her LGBTQ+ fans, and the video features a diverse cross-section of different couples kissing.

In My Arms

Another more left-field hit, In My Arms – from Kylie’s experimental 2007 album X – saw the singer venturing into electro-pop, with pulsating synthesisers and heavy electronic basslines. The track was one of the standouts from the album, and is relentlessly hooky.
