Ferry company Stena Line says a “quick succession” of storms has left passengers facing a string of delays.
And as frustrated customers complain that they can’t get answers as to when ferries will depart, the company says their contact centre is taking the same number of calls per day they normally deal with in a week.
The firm spoke out in the wake of a number of services being delayed or cancelled amid ongoing bad weather in the Irish Sea.
Their Belfast to Liverpool 10.30am sailing on Monday was delayed by two hours, “due to Storm Franklin and adverse weather”, while the 10.30pm sailing was cancelled “due to a technical difficulty”.
Over the weekend, passengers who boarded a Liverpool to Belfast service had to stay on board overnight with the vessel not leaving the harbour. People on the 10.30pm Friday sailing did not get off the boat until around 8am the following day.
Stena says the engine issue with their Stena Edda vessel is still being resolved.
In relation to people having problems getting through to customer relations staff, they added that their contact centre “is experiencing the same volumes in a day that they normally have in a week, so we are asking people to be patient and not to worry about being refunded, we are working through all enquiries and we will respond”.
They added that the “best way for passengers to get in touch is email us at feedback@stenaline.com, with the their booking reference and will respond as soon as we can”.
A spokesman added that regarding the storms, “this week was a rare weather event. It was the first time since the naming of storms commenced in 2014, that we have experienced three storms in quick succession. Let’s hope it is the last”.
