Stefon Diggs Breaks Silence on Brief Absence From Mandatory Minicamp

Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs spoke with reporters Wednesday for the first time about why he missed the first day of Buffalo’s mandatory minicamp in June.

The three-time Pro Bowler stated his absence was due to “family” issues. Diggs also added he and McDermott had a conversation about the situation but that he prefers to keep things “in house.”

“I attributed it to family matters,:” Diggs said, per ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg. “I don’t like dancing around things… Everybody has family matters. We had a conversation. All is well, water on the bridge now, we back at work. … Everything that needed to be said, we talked it out as men.”

The 29-year-old also touched on his frustration of the franchise’s failure to compete for a Super Bowl appearance. Since Diggs joined the Bills in 2020 after his Vikings’ tenure, Buffalo lost to the Chiefs in the ’20 AFC Championship game and was bounced from the divisional round of the playoffs by Kansas City and the Bengals in each of the last two seasons.

“Everybody says they want a Super Bowl but we’ve had legitimate chances at this thing,” Diggs said. “… We’ve had everything that we needed. … We lost for a couple years at this point. We’ve been trying to ger over the hump and obviously is caused a lot of frustration.”

However, as he enters his ninth NFL season in ’23, Diggs said he is ready to start a new season with his main focus to win.
