Steelers WR coach calls George Pickens rookie season a failure on his part

Last season, no NFL wide receiver had more highlight-reel catches than Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens. Even as a rookie, Pickens stood out with his ability to catch everything that got close to him like a spider catching flies in his web.

But it doesn’t sound like wide receiver coach Frisman Jackson was as sold on Pickens rookie year as the rest of the league and the fans. He spoke to the media after minicamp practice on Wednesday and said Pickens’ rookie season was a “failure on his part” as well as a “failure on his part.”

We aren’t sure if this was just because expectations were so high and perhaps he didn’t live up to them. Given the team was working with a rookie quarterback for most of the season, what Pickens did was impressive.

For the season, Pickens had 52 receptions. This was good enough for third-best on the team. Pickens also had 801 receiving yards which was bested only by Diontae Johnson and he actually led the team with four touchdown receptions.
