One of the few members of the Pittsburgh Steelers missing from OTAs so far is wide receiver Dointae Johnson. These workouts are voluntary but it is always a talking point when a guy doesn’t show. Especially a guy heading into the final year of his contract and eyeing an extension.
But Johnson’s teammate Chase Claypool isn’t reading too much into Johnson’s absence and assures everyone he’s working hard.
“I know Diontae is grinding no matter where he is,” Claypool said. “I know a lot of people are looking into, it but I’m not looking into it too much. He’s perfecting his craft and he’s going to come play.”
The Steelers drafted two athletic wide receivers in the 2022 NFL draft. That couldn’t have sat well with Johnson, who is coming off of his best season as a professional. It could only benefit Johnson to be at OTAs in terms of working in what is really a new offensive system and two new quarterbacks but this is how we always see these things go.
Let us know in the comments what you think. Is Johnson making a mistake skipping OTAs given all the changes to the team?
