For whatever reason, there was a huge run on quarterbacks during the 2023 NFL draft. In fact, after seeing only nine quarterbacks chosen in 2022, 14 were selected in 2023. The Pittsburgh Steelers noted ahead of the draft that while they needed to add at least one more quarterback to the roster, they had no plans to draft them.
The Steelers stuck to that strategy and instead signed Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan as an undrafted free agent. Morgan is a five-year player with 51 games on his resume. He has 9,454 career passing yards and a 65-to-32 touchdown to interception ratio.
No one is going to be excited if Morgan is thrust into the starting lineup but with Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky ahead of him, Morgan is a perfect fit to sit and learn as the team’s third quarterback.
Look for the Steelers to add another quarterback to keep four during offseason workouts and training camp.
