It didn’t take long for the Pittsburgh Steelers to fill the void left by wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud. According to ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor via Mike Reiss, the Steelers are signing free agent wide receiver/return specialist Gunner Olszewski to a two-year contract worth $4.2 million.
Olszewski was one of the best return men in the NFL in 2021 for the New England Patriots. He returned 26 punts for 309 yards and 18 kickoff returns for 418 yards. In 2020, Olszewski made the Pro Bowl after he led the league in punt return yards and punt return average.
Adding Olszewski doesn’t help the passing offense at this point and with McCloud and JuJu Smith-Schuster both leaving, look for the Steelers to continue to work to bolster the talent at receiver.
Gunner Olszewski is indeed heading to Pittsburgh on a two-year, $4.2 million deal (h/t @MikeReiss). He's not the same receiving threat as Ray Ray McCloud, but he's a talent returner who fills that void.
