Steelers spent over 8 hours on tarmac in KC after emergency landing

The Pittsburgh Steelers had an interesting Sunday. After wrapping up a win over the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh prepared to just fly back to Pittsburgh as they would any other week.

Unfortunately, mechanical problems forced the Steelers to make an emergency landing in Kansas City in the middle of the night and according to head coach Mike Tomlin stayed on the plane for more than eight hours, just sitting on the tarmac. Tomlin, as one would expect, made the most of this downtime with a little bit of sleep and then work.

“Some sleep and some working, Tomlin said. “Thankfully because of technology, iPads and so forth, we can move on. After I got a nap, I did.”

The delay does push everything back for the Steelers in terms of preparation. This is on top of the natural delay associated with playing on Sunday night. Pittsburgh now tries to gather themselves and prepare to travel to Houston and take on the Texans.
