The Pittsburgh Steelers search for a backup long snapper has finally come to an end. According to the official XFL account, the Steelers have signed Rex Sunahara.
Sunahara is known to the Steelers. He was on the practice squad back in 2021 during the height of the COVID pandemic as a backup plan. The Steelers have had multiple players in for tryouts this offseason before settling on Sunahara.
This move is about more than a body in training camp. With the level of work the Steelers have put in on this, you can believe Sunahara is going to have a shot to make the final 53-man roster. Chrisitan Kuntz is the current starting long snapper but his 2022 season was nothing to write home about. The team hasn’t been shy about rebuilding the roster this offseason.
