Former New York Giants defensive back Trenton Thompson has found a new home with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers announced the signing on Wednesday but the terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Thompson joins cornerback Isaiah Dunn, who was also signed by Pittsburgh.
A former undrafted free-agent signing of the Giants in 2022 out of San Diego State, Thompson had multiple stints on the team’s practice squad during his first season but did see one promotion to the active roster.
He appeared in just one game for Big Blue, playing 12 snaps on special teams. Thompson was inked to a futures deal earlier this offseason before being waived last month.
The Steelers are missing two of their safeties in training camp, with Minkah Fitzpatrick absent due to personal reasons and Damontae Kazee missing because of an ankle injury.
Regardless, the 6-foot-1, 196-pound defensive back faces an uphill climb in trying to make the team’s roster out of training camp.
