On Thursday night, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky could be playing for his job. Two shaky performances where the six-year veteran looked timid and Trubisky needs to impress on Thursday night against the Cleveland Brown. Not just for his coaches and teammates but to get himself back in the good graces of the fanbase.
How does Trubisky do that? Obviously, beating a division rival on the road in prime time is a great start. But he has to do it with some style. If I’m Trubisky on Thursday night, I hold nothing back. If you are going to go down, go down swinging.
Trubisky has topped 3,000 yards passing twice in his career and made the Pro Bowl in 2018. He has the physical tools to be far more productive than 181 yards passing per game. Is offensive coordinator Matt Canada part of the problem? Of course. But his scheme doesn’t stop Trubisky from cutting loose and taking some shots deep because guys are running those routes.
The same goes for his running. In 2018, Trubisky rushed for 421 yards. So far through two games, Trubisky has 16 yards on only four carries. Trubisky needs to cut loose and be the playmaker he is capable of and stop holding himiself back and in turn, hold back the offense.
