Lost in all the hoopla in the Pittsburgh Steelers signing quarterback Mitch Trubisky is that the Steelers already have a starting quarterback on the roster. Well sort of. Mason Rudolph is heading into this fourth season with the Steelers, got himself a new contract and has 10 career starts.
Rudolph went on the Rich Eisen Show and talked about competing for the starting job with Trubisky. You might not like Rudolph as a player or a person but you have to appreciate his confidence.
My status is finally having the ability to compete to be the starting quarterback. I’m excited about that. I think there’s a lot to be excited about. The pieces around us. We’ve bolstered the o-line, got a couple great young receivers, a young running back who’s a workhorse. A lot to be excited about.
If head coach Mike Tomlin really wants what is best for the team, he will keep the quarterback competition wide open throughout the offseason and into the preseason. Who do you think will end up the starting quarterback this season? Let us know in the comments below.
We really put @steelers QB @Rudolph2Mason to task with #StartBenchCut today, if we do say so ourselves — lots of fun:
