Once the Pittsburgh Steelers season gets going, it is going to be hard to predict who will step up week to week in the passing game. Quarterback Kenny Pickett has a big job ahead of him to build chemistry with a very talented group of skill-position players, some he’s worked with and some he hasn’t.
Pickett spoke to the media before the team’s first padded practice on Wednesday and offered a surprise player as the guy he hopes to build chemistry with and get some reps with at training camp. Pickett says rookie tight end Darnell Washington is the guy he hopes to work with more.
Washington was a bargain for the Steelers in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. He’s a massive target just brimming with raw athleticism and skills. He’s also a dominating run blocker who will really bolster the run game. But if Pickett can ease Washington into the offense, his size and athleticism make him a natural weapon, especially in the red zone.
