The Arizona Cardinals will face the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday at Acrisure Stadium. It will be a homecoming for running back James Conner, who played collegiately for Pitt and spent the first four NFL seasons with the Steelers.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is preparing his team to get Conner’s best.
“We can’t allow James Conner to do what James does,” Tomlin said, via NFL.com. “Know and love and got a lot of respect for James. He is a legitimate tough guy, a big-time competitor. Expecting nothing but his absolute best coming back into Pittsburgh because I know him.”
So far this season, Conner has rushed for 526 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
Conner has been what has moved Arizona’s offense, even if he hasn’t scored since Week 3.
“Aside from his will and intangible things, man, his skillset,” Tomlin said. “When he gets into the secondary, he’s tough to deal with. He’s a combative runner. He has a nose for the line to gain and the goal line — he has for his entire career. He’s always been a touchdown scorer.”
The Steelers allow an average of 118.4 rushing yards per game and 4.3 yards per carry.
