On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers made official what we all expected. The team announced they are placing defensive tackle Cam Heyward on IR after his groin tear.
According to a report that came out ahead of this announcement, Heyward is expected to miss at least eight weeks and he had surgery on the injury on Thursday.
Buy Steelers TicketsThe Steelers went to great lengths to bolster depth and talent along the defensive line this offseason. When Heyward went down on Sunday none of that seemed to matter. You just don’t replace a player as good as Heyward with a single play. But with a week of practice without Heyward, guys like Isaiahh Loudermilk and Keeanu Benton should be better prepared for an expanded role against the Cleveland Browns.
Pittsburgh also announced they had released CB Anthony Brown. There’s been no announcement of a corresponding practice squad move yet but the Steelers could add a player at any number of positions with the current injury situation.
