Steelers OC Matt Canada Responds to Fans Who Chanted to Fire Him During Week 2 Game

Steelers fans chanted “Fire Canada!” towards offensive coordinator Matt Canada in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s win over the Browns, and Canada doesn’t seem to take much offense to it.

The OC’s response to the chants sounded similar to coach Mike Tomlin’s, in which he said the team appreciates the fans’ “passion.”

“The fans want us to win. They want us to play better, so there’s nothing wrong with their passion in those things,” Canada said, via ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “And obviously, we’re not going to—Mike T. says it all the time—we’re not running away from it. We expect to be better. We’re going to be better. I firmly believe that. So, until we do that, obviously there’s going to be frustration. [There’s] more frustration with our guys because we’re not happy with what we’re putting on tape and putting on the field. So, we’ll continue to work and we’ll get it right and we’ll get it better. I firmly believe that.”

Despite concerns from fans, the team and coaching staff have all shared similar sentiments regarding Canada. For example, tight end Pat Freiermuth said the team needs to “continue to trust” Canada and the positions he puts the team in.
