Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt is once again dominating opponents as the 2023 NFL season rolls on.
Watt is considered one of the top defensive players in the league, but whether or not he’s the top guy is often debated. His AFC North rival, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, is frequently a name headlined in the conversation, too.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin seemed to make his answer clear about who he thinks takes the crown as the NFL’s best defensive player during press conference on Tuesday. Watt is coming off a massive game against the Bengals in which he tallied two sacks, five solo tackles and one forced fumble.
“Let’s be honest: T.J. Watt is the best defensive player on the planet right now. He proves that week in and week out,” Tomlin said.

Through 11 games, Watt is tied for first in the league for sacks with 13.5. He’s already on track to possibly earn his second NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, a feat he accomplished back in 2021 when he totaled 22.5 sacks on the season.
Garrett is tied for third on the league’s list with 13 sacks so far this season.
