Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin took a break from his tour of Power 5 campuses on Tuesday in his NFL draft prep to stop by Liberty University on Tuesday to get another look at quarterback Malik Willis.
Depending on who you ask, Willis is either the No. 1 or No. 2 quarterback in the upcoming draft. Tomlin has made no effort to hide his interest in Willis based on the level of interaction at the Senior Bowl and this campus visit just reinforces that.
The Steelers signed quarterback Mitch Trubisky this offseason as a bridge starter but it’s good to see Tomlin is still keeping his eyes on the big picture with a player like Willis. In a league where blending athleticism and arm talent, Willis is the best of the bunch in this draft.
Drafting Willis could take a trade-up but with all the free-agent moves the Steelers have already made, the cost to move up a handful of spots might be well worth it.
