Steelers HC Mike Tomlin says he never considered benching Mitch Trubisky

To say Thursday was a rough outing for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky would be an understatement. Trubisky talked a good game going into his first start of the season but when it came time to show it on the field, things didn’t go according to plan.

This did not sit well with the Steelers faithful at Acrisure Stadium. The chants for Mason Rudolph echoed throughout the stadium louder and louder with every failed drive.

But after the game, head coach Mike Tomlin said he never considered benching Trubisky in favor of Mason Rudolph.

While we can appreciate Tomlin’s sentiment the reasons for this is more practical than anything. As poorly as Trubisky played, Rudolph wasn’t going to turn that game around. And all you would have done is play Rudolph in a loss and then turn back to Trubisky the following week. Then you’ve disrupted team chemistry and player confidence.

The Steelers need to figure out how to get things on track in a hurry because Kenny Pickett is still recovering from ankle surgery.
